The William I. Fine Theoretical Physics Institute and the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Minnesota are looking to fill two senior positions in the broadly defined area of theoretical condensed matter physics for scientists with outstanding achievements in the field.
Applications from pairs of distinguished scientists in mid-career who have a record of successful collaboration would be welcomed. Although there is a preference for individuals working the area of "hard" condensed matter theory, applications from people working in the areas of soft condensed matter theory or theoretical biological physics would also be considered. The appointee(s) will have tenure in the School of Physics and Astronomy and will be members of the W. I. Fine Theoretical Physics Institute, which will entitle them to a number of attractive benefits, including budgets for travel and visitors, and access to funds for running workshops. Members of the W. I. Fine Theoretical Physics Institutes have a reduced classroom teaching obligation. Candidates are required to have a Ph.D. in physics, and they must be able to present substantial evidence of outstanding creativity in theoretical condensed matter physics research supported by a significant publication record and letters from recognized leaders in condensed matter physics. They will be expected to conduct a vigorous and significant research program and to teach effectively at both the graduate and undergraduate levels.
The William I. Fine Theoretical Physics Institute is within the School of Physics and Astronomy. Please see our websites for more information: www.ftpi.umn.edu/ and www.physics.umn.edu
