Hardayal S. Gill (Ph.D. 1978, Advisor: W. V. Weyhmann)

My Ph.D. is in Physics/Electrical Engineering and my advisor was Professor W. V. Weyhmann. After graduating I worked at National Semiconductor Corporation.

Now I am a technologist in San Jose, CA, living in Palo Alto, CA with my son, Kavi Gill, and wife, Seema Dhillon. I have been very active in magnetic data storage, currently holding "320" granted U.S. Patents on data storage. I was elected IEEE Fellow in 1995 for my work on "Magnetoresistive Recording heads" and their first use in Magnetic disc storage. In 1997, IBM elected and named me IBM Distinguished Engineer for Contributions to and development of Giant Magnetoresistive heads. I am currently working future sensors for magnetic data storage. I remember entering class prepared with great cooperation among students and great help from Professor B.F. Bayman. He was always available to answer any questions and help students. Professor Walter V. Weyhmann, Professor A.M. Goldman Paul Ellis, B.F. Bayman, Halley, Campbell. I fondly remember practice Ph.D. written exams with Bayman.
