Andrew Ferstl (Ph.D.Physics, Advisor: K. Olive)

What I remember most from the School of Physics and Astronomy is the interaction with peers and professors: conversations about physics and other topics of the day.

The seminars and colloquiums are also memorable. I graduated with my Ph.D. in physics under my advisor, Professor Keith Olive, the same year as my wife, Kerri Ferstl, got her Ph.D. in psychology. We have two children. I enjoy volleyball, mountain biking, road biking, hiking, and attending my son's soccer matches. I currently serve as chair and professor of the physics department at Winona State University. In addition to teaching classes and supervising student research, I am involved in K-12 science education and outreach. I lead workshops for K-12 teachers throughout the year and organize Science Fun Nights (science shows) for local elementary schools. I also have the pleasure of working with Nathan Moore (Ph.D. UMN) and Jennifer Anderson (B.S. UMN).
