Gasiorowicz dies at 88

Emeritus Professor Stephen Gasiorowicz died June 3rd, 2016. Stephen Gasiorowicz was instrumental in the founding of the William I. Fine Theoretical Physics Institute and served as the Acting Director of the Institute from 1987-1989. The Institute named their seminar room after him.

Gasiorowicz was the author of many books including several popular textbooks, Physics for Scientists and Engineers, (co-written with Paul Fishbane and Stephen Thornton) first published in 1992, now in its third edition and Quantum Physics, first published in 1974, also in its third edition.

Gasiorowicz earned his Ph.D. in theoretical physics at the
University of California-Los Angeles, where he met and married Hilde,
his wife of 63 years. He joined the physics faculty at the University
in 1961, where he worked until his retirement in 2001.

In retirement, he taught at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute
(OLLI).
