Physics Open House


The Physics Open House will be held Wednesday, November 2, 2005. Prospective physics majors and other interested undergraduates are invited to sample some or all of the day's activities.

Open House Schedule


9 a.m.- 3 p.m. Inside the Northrop Mall Entrance (near Room 150)

- Talk to physics majors & Society of Physics Students (SPS)
- Posters on Research Programs in the Physics Dept.
- Cool demonstrations
- Literature and Handouts

11:30 a.m. - 2 p.m., Room 226

Pizza Lunch and Straight talk about jobs. (Pizza arrives in shifts, so don't despair). Featuring guest talks by former UMinn Physics majors with jobs atKodak, Seagate, IMation, 3M, and a law firm.

Lab Tour Schedule

Throughout the day, take a tour of the Research and Teaching Labs!
Meet at SPS table outside Room 150 at the time listed
All tours are about 20 minutes long.

10:10 a.m. Junior Physics Majors "Modern Exp. Methods"

11:00 a.m. Huang Lab: Exploring soap film-like liquid crystal films

by optical probes.               Tour by John Liu

1:15 p.m. Mueller Lab: Biological fluorescence fluctuation

spectroscopy for protein dynamics. Tour by Joseph Skinner

1:40 p.m. Crowell Lab: Spin Transport and Spin Dynamics.
