Minnesota Governor Tim Pawlenty visited the NOvA construction site near Ash River, MN during the Fishing Opener may 13-16, 2010. The opener was held on Lake Kabetogama only a few miles from the future location of the NOvA far detector.

Physicists took the opportunity to explain some neutrino physics to the governor. Fermilab made a video comparing neutrinos to fish using the expertise of a local fishing guide, Frank House and Mark Messier, a spokesperson for NOvA.

The Governor’s Fishing Opener has been a tradition in Minnesota since 1948. The event was designed to promote the development of Minnesota’s recreation industry. It also provides the host community with an opportunity to highlight local fishing and other recreational activities and attractions.
