Kakalios to Deliver Physics of Superheroes Public Lecture

Professor James Kakalios will deliver an Institute of Technology Public Lecture, "The Uncanny Physics of Superheroes," on Thursday, June 24, 2010 at 7:00 p.m. in Room 150 Tate Laboratory of Physics.

Professor Kakalios book, The Physics of Super Heroes is in its second edition. He appeared in an Emmy-award winning video, "The Science of Watchmen which has been viewed over a million times on Youtube.

Kakalios received his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Chicago in 1985. In 1988, he joined the faculty of the School of Physics and Astronomy at the University of Minnesota where he is a Taylor Distinguished Professor. Kakalios’ research interests include nanocrystalline and amorphous semiconductors, pattern formation in sandpiles and fluctuation phenomena in neurological systems. He has been reading comic books longer than he has been studying physics.
