Physics Open House November 15

                                                       

The School of Physics and Astronomy will hold an Open House on Thursday, November 15th. Events will include lab tours, a pizza lunch and a Physics Force show.

Thursday NOVEMBER 15
Tate Physics Lab
Northrop Mall Entrance (near Room 150)

11 am – 3 pm
• Talk to physics majors & Society of Physics Students (SPS)
• Posters on Research Programs in the Physics Dept.
• Cool demonstrations
• Literature and Handouts on programs and careers

Take a tour of the Research and Teaching Labs!
Meet at SPS table outside Room 150 at the time listed
All tours are about 20 minutes long.

11:00 Junior Physics Majors “Modern Exp. Methods” Teaching Labs. Tour by Kurt Wick

1:30 Mueller lab-biophysics- fluorescence for protein dynamics- tour by Yun Chen
1:55 Noireaux lab-biophysics- artificial life lab
2:30 Crowell lab spin dynamics – tour by Eric Garlid

11:30 – 1 pm
Pizza Lunch and Straight talk about JOBS with Physics degrees
(Pizza arrives in shifts, so don’t despair)--Room 216
Guest talks by former UMinn Physics majors with jobs at Kodak, Guidant, Seagate and High School Teaching
1 pm – Director of Undergraduate Studies and “Physics of Superheroes” author – Jim Kakalios – Intro to physics program
Drawing for autographed copy of “Physics of Superheroes”

EVENING EVENTS: 6 pm – 8 pm
Take a tour of the Research Labs (meet at Northrup Mall entrance in Tate Physics Building at the SPS table)
