New g-2 Results

Results from the g-2 experiment, which measures the anomalous magnetic moment of the muon, were announced recently.

The group of physicists working on g-2, which includes Professor Priscilla Cushman's group from the University of Minnesota, have made an extremely precise measurement of this quantity, at the 700 parts per billion level. The magnetic moment is measured by analysis of the wobbling, or precession, of the muon particle spin in a magnetic field, and analysis of the data showed that it is 0.6 seconds faster than it should be according to theoretical prediction. This difference suggests interactions with undiscovered particles.
