Professor Robert Lysak has been appointed as Senior Editor of the Journal of Geophysical Research in Space Physics for the American Geophysical Union (AGU), the leading publication in its field. The journal covers aeronomy and magnetospheric physics, planetary atmospheres and magnetospheres, interplanetary and external solar physics, cosmic rays, and heliospheric physics.

Lysak was interviewed and chosen by the journal search committee with the AGU Board of Publications making the final decision. The position is a four year term. The Senior Editor position officially starts on January 1, 2010. The editorial team already started taking papers on October 1 to assure publishing continuity for the journal.

Professor Lysak has a long history of involvement with the Journal of Geophysical Research in Space Physics. He has published over 40 papers in the Journal, and he has been an active referee for JGR, typically refereeing five to 10 papers per year for the Journal. He was an Associate Editor for the Journal in early 90's. Professor Lysak has been active in the AGU in a number of other contexts through the years. He has been the Associate Editor for Geophysics Research Letters as well as JGR. He also served as the secretary of the Magnetospheric Physics program committee assisting in AGU meeting organization, and he has also served as the Chair of the Chapman Conference Committee, which is the primary AGU topical conference series covering all areas of geophysics.

Professor Lysak is looking forward to his term as Senior Editor. He says that "the publication of papers is one of the primary duties of scientists, and helping to assure that JGR continues to publish papers of the highest quality in space physics and maintains its leading role in our field is my primary goal for my term as editor."
