Leighton wins 2018 St. Cyr Scholarship

Tanner Leighton won the 2018 Harry and Viola St. Cyr Scholarship in Physics. He grew up in Austin, MN, attended Eastview High School in Apple Valley, MN and did his first half of college at the University of Notre Dame. Leighton finished the second half of college at the University majoring in physics and minoring in philosophy. He plans to use the Scholarship to help pay for tuition.

This summer Leighton's physics research is in astrophysics. The title of the project is "Contextual Classification of Transient Astrophysical Phenomena for Upcoming Synoptic Sky Surveys." Leighton's research is generally focused on astrophysics/cosmology and the philosophy of physics.
