The A. O. C. Nier Undergraduate Scholarship in Physics ($6,000).
This scholarship has been endowed by Mr. Albert Nerken to honor his friend and professional associate, Professor Alfred O. C. Nier. Applicants must be sophomore physics majors who have completed at least 15 credits in physics.
The 2007 Nier Award was presented on May 2nd prior to the final colloquium of the semester.
Daniel Brinkman was one of the recipients of the Alfred O. C. Nier Scholarship for 2007. Brinkman is currently working in Professor Dan Dahlberg\'s lab on the problem of exchange bias. He says research interests are still fairly broad, but that he is leaning toward Solid State physics. Brinkman is originally from Naperville, Illinois. He describes his hometown as being half-way between Argonne and Fermilab.
Molly Krogstad
Molly is a student in condensed matter physics and atomic, molecular, and optical physics. This summer she will be participating in a physics REU at the University of Colorado at Boulder, doing research on ultracold molecules. She plans to use the award money to cover the cost of tuition. She is originally from Maple Grove, Minnesota.
Nathan Mirman
Nathan is a student in high energy physics working with Professor Mans on aspects of the trigger system in the CMS (Compact Muon Solenoid) detector at CERN. nathan is originally from Minneapolis and plans to continue in high energy physics professionally.
Nicholas S. Eggert
Nic Eggert was one of the recipients of the Alfred O. C. Nier Scholarship for 2007. Last summer he worked in condensed matter with Professor Zudov, and this summer he is working at CERN in Geneva with Professor Rusack on the Compact Muon Solenoid (CMS). He plans to use his physics degree to pursue a Ph.D.> He would eventually like to work in research at a university. Eggert is originally from Iron Ridge, Wiscconsin.
