Quiz 2 (F 10/20)

Quiz 2 is to take place from 3:35 to 4:25 pm on Friday, 10/20.

To accommodate the required every other seating, students with last initials A-N are to take the quiz in Tate B50, while those with O-Z in Tate 101.

The quiz covers Chapters 16 & 17 of the textbook.

There are 5 multiple-choice questions and 2 problems. These are similar to the problems selected for discussion and homework.

One (8.5 in x 11 in) crib sheet is allowed, as well as non-programmable calculators. No textbooks or notebooks.

The tentative lecture plan is outlined in the syllabus.

Because materials may not be covered in the order as presented in the textbook, it is more effective to read the entire chapter before that chapter is covered in lectures.

We will finish Chapter 16 this week and start Chapter 17 on Monday, 10/2, finishing it by 10/11.

Instructor office hour change & rooms for office hours

For this week only, the Instructor will hold his office hour from 5 to 6 pm on Tuesday 9/12 in Tate 375-18.

The rooms for the office hours are still being finalized. For the first few weeks, please confirm with the Instructor and TAs regarding where the office hours will be held before you head over.

Accessing MasteringPhysics

Homework will be assigned through MasteringPhysics, the access to which is required for the course.

The Course ID is MPQIAN50846.

If you have purchased the textbooks at the University Bookstore, they should be bundled with MasteringPhysics. The access code is printed on the books. You should use it to set up an account. Together with the Course ID, you should be ready to use MasteringPhysics.

If you have an account with MasteringPhysics from a previous class, your account should be valid for 24 months from the date of registration. If you forget your login information, refer to the instruction on the sign-in page.

The electronic version for all chapters of the textbooks can be accessed through MasteringPhysics.

Textbooks & MasteringPhysics

Textbooks are Principles & Practice of Physics by Mazur, both Volumes 1 and 2. We will cover Chapters 14-17, 29, 30, 33, & 34. Chapters 14 & 15 are in Volume 1 while the rest are in Volume 2.

These are the same Mazur books used for Physics 1301 & 1302. You do not need to buy new ones if you still have those.

Access to MasteringPhysics is required. This is bundled with the textbooks.

If you took Physics 1301 & 1302 using Mazur's books & still have them, please check if you have access to MasteringPhysics for Fall 2017. If yes, then you are all set. Otherwise, please contact the bookstore or the publisher regarding purchase of that access only.
