I. COURSE REQUIREMENTS: 1) Come to class most of the time 2) Study the text, and especially the examples. 3) Work at least all of the suggested problems (below). I will assign two problems each week. These are to be handed in to your recitation instructor on the following Thursday. One of these (You won't know which in advance) will be graded. HW will make up 5% of your final grade. 4) Attend the lab. The lab grade will be 15% of your final total. You must get at least 70% in lab to pass the course. There will be four 50 min quizzes, in class, at the regular time. These will be on 13 June, 2 July, 25 July, and 8 Aug. (All on Fridays except 2 July). There will be two 50 min finals in class and at the regular time on 20 and 22 Aug. The quizzes will count 40% of your total, and the finals, 40% (20% each) In making up your final grade I will count only the three highest quizzes (40%) HW, LAB, and finals. If you get a higher total counting all four quizzes (again at 40%) I will use that. This means the finals will count a bit less.
I will normalize the final totals to 100 maximum. My grade cuts will be APPROXIMATELY:
A > or equal to 85 C+ 58-64
A- 80-84 C 54-57
B+ 75-79 C- 50-53
B 70-74 D+ 44-49
B- 65-69 D 39-43

F <39

Suggested Problems: These are not to be handed in, but, a problem much like one of these will be on each quiz (and finals)

Ch 1: 28,43,52,60,73,84 Ch 7: 11,26,36,48,59,64

Ch 3: 2,24,27,31,44,51,71 Ch 9: 8,22,28,36,46,55,58
Ch 4: 6,17,31,37,55,64 Ch 10: 11,18,23,33,37,55

The only way to master physics is to do PROBLEMS,PROBLEMS, PROBLEMS!!
