Graduate Prizes and Fellowships
A number of Physics Department and/or Graduate School Fellowships are available. These may be in addition to or instead of a Teaching Assistantship. If you are interested in obtaining fellowship support please apply no later than December 15, 2006. Nothing further is needed other than an early application following the normal procedures. We will nominate several of the early applicants based on the information provided in their application materials for these awards. Graduate School Fellowship candidates will need to submit a Graduate School application in January. Decisions are expected in late February or early March.
The Anatoly Larkin Fellowship
was awarded to Roman M. Lutchyn and Tao Hu. The Larkin Fellowship is a new scholarship awarded to a physics graduate student whose advisor is a member of the Fine Theoretical Physics Institute. The fellowship was established in memory of Professor Anatoly Larkin and was endowed by a group of 43 donors made up of his former students and colleagues. It is worth noting that one 2007 recipients of the Larkin Fellowship, Roman Lutchyn, was one of Professor Larkin's last advisees. Details & Award Winners
The Hagstrum Award
($1,000), a prize for graduating seniors from the Ph.D. program, was awarded to Vanessa Cheesbrough and Sam Gleason. Details & Award Winners
The Aneesur Rahman Award
($1,500) a prize for advanced graduate students for outstanding research contributions, was awarded to Alex Levchenko and Todd Springer. Details & Award Winners
The Outstanding T.A. Award
($200) which recognizes the work of teaching assistants was given to Sean Bartz, Daniel Brinkman, Perrie Cole, Joseph Kinney, Adam Schreckenberger, Addis Woldesenbet, Miranda Pihlaja and Ryo Namba. Details & Award Winners
The Robert O. Pepin Fellowship,
a graduate scholarship, was awarded to Anthony Hatke. Details & Award Winners
The Hoff Lu Fellowship,
a scholarship for graduate students was awarded to Anthony Hatke. Created by sons Mike and Lester Lu, this fellowship was endowed with in honor of their father, the late Hoff Lu (Ph.D. 1941) Lu was a distinguished alumnus of the University, working in Al Nier's laboratory during the period when the Professor completed his famous work on U235 and U238. Hoff Lu is known as the father of theoretical nuclear physics in China. Details & Award Winners
