Gopher Shield Rebuild

IMG_3116.JPG
Cleaning the ULA Pb base for Gopher's new shield
With the support of a URS I assisted in the design and construction of a new shield for Gopher, a high purity geranium gamma screener used to vet possible building materials for the future SuperCDMS detector. The old shield was simply made up of normal lead, while the new shield adds inner layers of copper and ultra low activity (ancient) lead within the normal lead to lower our background.

Gopher Sample Analysis

I have been running the analysis of Gopher's more recent samples, which involves some Monte Carlo work. This research is supported by a UROP grant.
