Meet Some Physics Majors

Eric Pinnick

Eric Pinnick is a senior in the Physics Bachelor of Science program. After taking the Methods in Experimental Physics class from Professor Paul Crowell, Pinnick began working in Crowell's lab programming computer macros for experiments. This is an example of how physics undergraduates can directly apply the skills they learn in class to begin work in labs on actual research.

Lisa Johnson

Lisa Johnson is a senior studying physics with a teaching emphasis. Johnson's undergraduate work has led her directly to graduate school at the University of Minnesota early admissions program in the College of Education where she plans to continue studying Physics Education and get her teaching certificate.

Nick Moody

Nick Moody is a senior who chose physics as his major because it gives a broad base that is applicable in many different fields. "In physics you learn how things really work instead of a list of rules to use in calculations," Moody said. Moody is currently in the NUPOC program of the Navy and plans on being a Nuclear Propulsion Officer on a submarine when he graduates this May.

Joshua Michael

For some students, such as senior Joshua Michel, the flexibility of the major allows one to explore other interests before settling down in one subject. "I took a whole bunch of classes from art history to social science and biology," Michel said, "But physics just stuck with me." Michel is a getting a physics degree from the College of Liberal Arts. Michel said that the flexibility of CLA allowed him to pursue a Bachelor of Arts and still take a program that was very similar to the Bachelor of Sciences without transferring from one college to another.
