Celebration to Commemorate Hoff Lu


The School will Celebrate the work and life of Hoff Lu, with a program of speakers and the dedication of a bronze sculpture in his honor on Thursday, June 17, 2004 at 3:00 p.m. in Physics Room 131.

The program of speakers includes Robert Bruininks, President of the University of Minnesota, Hong Yang, Director of the China Center, Wan Sheng-Hong, President of Fudan University, Steven Crouch, Associate Dean of the Institute of Technology and Allen Goldman, Head of the School of Physics and Astronomy. The program will be followed by a reception in the atrium of the Tate Laboratory of Physics.

The School also will also welcome twenty or more members of Lu's Family, colleagues dignitaries from his home city, Lai Zhou, and representatives from industry in China.

Dr. Hoff Lu, a distinguished 1941 graduate of the School of Physics and Astronomy, dedicated his life to scientific research and educational work. Respected in the scientific community for his integrity and revered in China as a great patriot, he became known as "the father of nuclear energy in China."
