Simulating crystal growth

About My Work

Crystal growth is a particularly challenging experimental system. Because of the delays which occur when one changes an experimental parameter, it can be hard to know which change had which effect. Worse yet, probing even basic quantities like temperature can be difficult.

To aid experimental efforts to understand crystal growth, I simulate experimental setups using finite elements methods with free/moving boundaries.
