Equilibrium Statistical Mechanics. Review of Thermodynamics and General Principles of Statistical Mechanics. Ideal systems, classical and quantum. Fluctuations, spontaneously broken symmetry. Applications to interface fluctuations and crystalline order. Goldstone theorem. Phase transitions and critical phenomena. Landau Theory, scaling theory and Renormalization Group. Numerical methods: Molecular Dynamics and Monte Carlo.
