2008 QuarkNet Workshop

July 28-30, 2008

CERN is in the news! Particle physics will soon be on the front page and words like quarks, leptons, neutrinos, muons, and bosons will be capturing the interests of some of our students and the general public. Knowing this, how and when do we teach it to our students?

If you would like to try to answer this question and the multitude more that get raised by the study of particle physics, then we invite you to apply for a workshop in the spring, summer and fall of 2008.

QuarkNet at the University of Minnesota is offering a five day workshop for high school physics and physical science teachers. Participants will receive:

  • hands-on experiences in particle physics educational activities
  • $400 stipend
  • up to $250 for a research mini-grant.
  • up-to-date information on particle physics research laboratories
  • presentations by particle physicists
  • visits to world class particle physics research laboratories

The workshop will be conducted at the Tate Lab of Physics on the Twin Cities campus of the University of Minnesota from July 28-30. Additionally we will meet for a late afternoon/early evening on May 15 and one on October 23. The times will be determined once participants are selected.

We hope to see you this summer! If you are interested, please fill out the included application and/or pass it on to interested colleagues that may not have gotten this mailing. Feel free to make copies. Applications are due May 2, 2008 and should be mailed to:
